I just want to give a status update, as a finale to this blog.
I received a letter from Apple Customer Care (January 11, 2011). They wrote me to apologize for the delay in their response and to tell me that their records indicate that the issue I experienced was addressed. This was true - I received a refund for the computer that was supposed to be returned to Apple through UPS delivery.
To this day, more than a month after the computer was dropped off at a UPS Store, I know the package was never delivered. The tracking system still shows that the package is within the USP network.
I tried to file a police report for theft. I was told that this is not possible: when a package is dropped off and is within UPS's care, they are responsible for it; this means that, in my case, where a computer was stolen, only UPS would be able to file a police report against themselves! The Ottawa Police told me to raise the issue with UPS and ask that they report the crime and give me the "report number" as evidence that the appropriate action was taken.
Conclusion: UPS stole my package, a brand new Macbook Air, and there is no justice.
Lessons Learned: when you make a UPS package drop off, make sure you get a receipt. Also make sure your package is insured; otherwise you won't be protected against lost, theft or damage.
Fido has shipped a brand new Iphone 4S through UPS. When I opened The box, I have found a stone wrapped in a newspaper. Call Fido, call UPS for two weeks, finally Fido decided to replace the phone graciously. Nevertheless, the thief at UPS will be unpunished because neither Fido, neither UPS are willing to take any action. Incredible! My advice, If you have no choice but use UPS, check the box at the delivery. If it has been tampered with, do not take it! You have very limited options in this case.
ReplyDeleteIt's really too bad that UPS employees can get away with theft, and all the trouble these situations can cause customers. Glad you got a new phone!
